When Vikrant Massey last shared his views on religion and how his family includes people following different faiths, he was questioned and trolled on social media. Now, in a conversation with Rhea Chakraborty, Vikrant revealed that he has left the religion column on his son Vardaan’s birth certificate blank.

Vikrant on complications of religion

Vikrant said that religion is a complicated topic for him but he does believe in God and is thankful for whatever he has achieved.

"I think religion is a personal choice. For me, it's a way of life. I think everyone has the right to choose their religion. Mere ghar pe har prakaar ke religion aapko milenge (In my house, you will find people of every faith). I think religion is man-made. Main pooja karta hoon, gurudwara bhi jaata hoon, dargah bhi jaata hoon (I offer prayers, I go to the gurdwara, and I also visit the dargah). I get peace with all of this."

Vikrant Massey on his son’s religion

Vikrant and his wife Sheetal embraced parenthood last year when they welcomed their son Vardaan. The actor said that he does not want his son to discriminate against anyone on the basis of religion or caste.

"On the birth certificate of my baby boy, we left the space for religion blank. So when his birth certificate came from the government, there was no religion stated on it. Toh yeh nahi hai ki sarkaar aapko bolti hai likhna padega (It’s not like the government forces you to write it). It depends on you. The moment we got his birth certificate, I put a dash in the religion column. I will be so heartbroken if I realise my son is treating anyone on the basis of the practices they follow. I am not raising my son that way."

Vikrant’s religious background

Vikrant comes from a family where people follow different faiths. In an interview last year, Massey revealed that his father is Christian, his mother is Sikh, and his brother converted to Islam at the age of 17.

"My father was questioned by my extended relatives about how he could ‘allow’ that (brother’s conversion). He said that was none of their business. ‘He is my son, he is only answerable to me and has all the rights to choose what he wants.’ After seeing this, I went on my own quest, wondering what exactly is religion. It is man-made," the actor had shared last year.
