Sayani Gupta has had an appetite for films in different languages from an early age. That's why she is spoilt for choice when deciding films to watch amid the lockdown. "Even though people have different lives, and the shows have varied milieus, they can be relatable, because emotions are universal," says the Four More Shots Please! actor in an exclusive interview to mid-day as she lists binge-worthy projects in Lebanese, Taiwan, Chinese, and Spanish, for people to indulge in. About Elly: An Iranian film tops her list. "Asghar Farhadi's About Elly is a fabulous film. It's a family drama with a gripping plot", says the Article 15 actress. About Elly is a 2009 film about middle class relationships in Iran.
Capernaum: "There's also a heart-breaking Lebanese movie called Capernaum, which won the Jury award at the Cannes Film Festival", says Gupta. The film directed by Nadine Labaki is told in flashback format, focusing on 12-year-old boy's life who goes on to sue his parents for child neglect.
The Wayward Cloud: The Taiwanese offering, The Wayward Cloud, also makes it to her list. "It's an adult film, but is beautiful", says Gupta.
Catch 22: Catch-22 is a 1970 American black comedy war film adapted from the novel of the same name. It stars Alan Arkin, Bob Balaban, Martin Balsam, and Richard Benjamin. Released in 1970, the film was directed by Mike Nichols.
