Telugu film star Nandamuri Balakrishna is currently promoting his upcoming film Akhanda 2. The actor commands a massive fan following in the southern regions, especially in the Telugu-speaking states. Fans are known to take to the streets and celebrate enthusiastically when his films release in theatres. Earlier this year, during the release of his Telugu film Daaku Maharaj, five of his fans reportedly beheaded a goat as part of the celebrations, following which a case was filed against them. In light of this, the actor has urged fans to refrain from such activities. He requested fans to treat animals with kindness.
Nandamuri Balakrishna asks fans to not kill animals
Balakrishna was addressing his fans at the pre-release event of Akhanda 2. Before wrapping up his speech, he made a sincere request—urging fans not to kill animals outside theatres during movie celebrations. He said, “I must tell you something. Every region has its traditions, with some of you beheading goats during movie releases. Please don’t do that.”
The Tollywood star added, “It is not okay to harm another living being. Understand that they also have a right to live. We must treat four-legged animals with as much respect as two-legged humans. I hope you will heed my request.”
When Balakrishna’s fans were booked for animal cruelty
In January this year, five people were booked by Andhra Pradesh police for beheading a goat during the release of Nandamuri Balakrishna's Daaku Maharaj. The incident happened outside Pratap Movie Theatre in Tirupati on January 12. A video captured the men surrounding a goat and beheading the conscious animal with a machete in full public view. The video also showed a man smearing the goat’s blood on the movie poster.
