Sivakarthikeyan's Parasakthi is all set to lock horns with Vijay's Jana Nayagan on Pongal 2025. However, ahead of its release, it has now faced a setback. Sources have revealed that the Central Board of Film Certification has demanded that filmmaker Sudha Kongara to get rid of certain scenes from the upcoming film.
CBFC demands major cuts in Parasakthi
The CBFC has reportedly asked the makers to remove certain scenes and dialogues related to the anti-Hindi agitation depicted in the film. Sources in the Tamil film industry told NDTV that after the CBFC demands, the filmmaker has approached the Revising Committee of the Central Board of Film Certification in Mumbai. The filmmaker is reportedly distressed that the cuts could potentially affect the narrative and also alter its historical representation. Notably, neither the filmmaker nor the producer, Dawn Pictures, has so far issued an official statement on the matter.
Interestingly, the Sivakarthikeyan starrer was initially scheduled for release on January 14. However, it was unexpectedly advanced to January 10. Dawn Pictures confirmed the news via an official statement posted on X on December 22 via a note that read, "We wish to inform the media and audiences that the release of Parasakthi has been preponed to 10 January 2026 (sic)." The producer also stated that the decision was based on "sustained demand from theatrical stakeholders" and sought to "maximise its theatrical potential" during the busy festive season of Pongal.
About Parasakthi
Parasakthi features Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa, and Sreeleela, who makes her Tamil debut, in lead roles. The film is said to be a historical drama set in 1960s Madras, revolving around the socio-political climate of Tamil Nadu at the time. For the unversed, the state witnessed anti-Hindi agitations during that period. Sivakarthikeyan is said to play a college student deeply involved in these protests. Media reports claim that Sudha Kongara's Parasakthi is the story of student leader M. Rajendran, who lost his life during the demonstrations.
Parasakthi is reportedly made on a budget of around Rs 150 crore, which makes it the biggest project of Sivakarthikeyan's career. The film's pre-release business has generated significant buzz in the industry. According to news reports, Zee5 acquired the OTT rights for the film for Rs 52 crore, while Kalaignar TV has secured the satellite rights for approximately Rs 32 crore.
