Jeethu Joseph has confirmed that Drishyam 3, releasing on April 2, 2026, will be the final film in the iconic Mohanlal-led franchise. The filmmaker said even audiences are asking him to stop the series on a high note
Mohanlal in Drishyam
Filmmaker Jeethu Joseph is currently gearing up for the release of Drishyam 3, starring Mohanlal. The film is slated for a theatrical release on April 2, 2026. In a recent interview, the filmmaker spoke about the future of the hugely popular franchise headlined by Mohanlal.
No more Drishyam
In an interaction with Silly Monk Malayalam, Jeethu Joseph confirmed that Drishyam 3 will mark the end of the franchise. The director revealed that he has no plans to continue the series beyond the upcoming instalment. “I have not even thought of it in my dreams. I am trying to end this because even people are asking me to stop it. That’s why I am thinking this way,” he said.
What to expect from Drishyam 3
After the massive success of Drishyam and Drishyam 2, expectations from the third instalment are naturally sky-high. However, Jeethu remains focused on storytelling rather than chasing twists or spectacle.
“I don’t make Drishyam for its twists. The story has to grow organically,” he explained. “The second part took place six years after the first and showed how the family, the police, and the case evolved. In Drishyam 3, we continue exploring what happens to each of these characters as time passes. Georgekutty is getting older — is he as confident as before? That’s what I’m interested in.”
The filmmaker also recalled an online comment he received after announcing that the script for Drishyam 3 was complete. “Someone wrote that it should be better than the extraordinary Drishyam 2. I replied that I’m not making Drishyam 3 to beat Drishyam 2 — I’m making it to tell what’s happening with Georgekutty’s family. Their life could go in many directions; I’ve chosen one and followed that.”
For Jeethu, the Drishyam universe is deeply personal. “Thodupuzha is close to my native place. My first film Detective was shot there, and even Life of Josutty has connections to it. The greenery and rain of the region always bring a certain mood to my films,” he shared.
“The Drishyam house is located in a place called Vazhithala. Now, when I visit, it feels like going home. People recognise it as the Drishyam house and often come there to click photos.”
