Actor Anuj Sullere makes a comeback on 'Kavya Ek Jazbaa Ek Junoon'

On Sony Entertainment Television's captivating show 'Kavya - Ek Jazbaa, Ek Junoon,' Kavya’s (Sumbul Touqeer Khan)  ex-fiancé, Shubham, portrayed by Anuj Sullere, returns to her life as an IAS officer working as Kavya's junior assistant. Initially portrayed as a supportive and understanding partner, Shubham's journey took an unexpected turn when he faced the setback of not clearing the IAS exam, while Kavya succeeded. This blow to his confidence and ego led him down a path of strained relationships and inner turmoil. But now, he has successfully cleared his final attempt at the examination, completed academy training, and is now undergoing practical training under Kavya's supervision.  Anuj Sullere shares his feelings about returning to the set, saying, "I recently returned to the set after a break and I felt nostalgic, particularly during my first scene with Sumbul. Sumbul welcomed me warmly, and I have received so much love and warmth from the entire team. Before beginning the shoot, I went for a costume test, and I visited the set a few days prior to catch up with everyone as well." Earlier this year, while talking about the intense track of Kavya being accused of Omi's murder, Sumbul who plays the lead role had said, "So far, viewers have witnessed the tumultuous journey of Kavya through every stage of her life and how she manoeuvres each situation with her presence of mind. With the 9-month leap, viewers will see a rebooted version of Kavya - more bebaak, and more spunky. Her determination to win back everything that is rightfully hers will make her unstoppable! Every situation teaches you something; Kavya has endured it all but she’s always done the right thing. In the upcoming episodes, viewers will follow Kavya’s journey where is resolute in regaining Adi’s love and faith while getting reinstated as an IAS officer.” Earlier, in an interaction with IANS, Sumbul talked about the show, character, challenges, and the bond she shares with her co-stars. The actress said she found the story very relatable and real. “Real in the sense not someone’s story, but somewhere relatable. So I thought I should do this.” Talking about her character, Sumbul said, “I think there is one aspect where I can relate to Kavya the most is her passion towards her work, dream and the target. Because in my entire life I never had any other option. I always felt that if I am determined to act, then I will do this only. Because there is no other option for me.” “If you have a backup plan, you are really not passionate. That’s what I feel, and ‘Kavya’ is also the same. She has one target, and she will do anything for that. If you are passionate about something, you are just gonna get it. I didn’t always want to be an actor, but when I decided, since that moment I am still an actor,” she shared. Tune in to 'Kavya Ek Jazbaa Ek Junoon' airing every Monday to Friday at 7:30 PM exclusively on Sony Entertainment Television.

The band taped the episode with Ed Sheeran during his March visit

From waste to getting West’s attention

What does international pop star Ed Sheeran have in common with a group of 25 Dharavi boys? That they find music in everything. Tonight, 10 members of Dharavi Reloaded, a junk percussion band, and the Shape of you hitmaker will be seen performing together in the latest episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show. What makes Dharavi Reloaded unique is that the band makes music using waste materials like drum barrels, oil cans, paint buckets, water bottles, and so on.  Taping the episode with the four-time Grammy winner was a dream come true for the band as well as its founder-curator Abhijit Jejurikar. “It was a manifestation of our dreams. We call this ‘manifestED’. Performing on the show, which will stream across 192 countries, is one of our biggest achievements,” says Jejurikar.  The idea behind Dharavi Reloaded was triggered in 2011, when Jejurikar moved to Mumbai and began working as a marketing professional. But the musician in him wanted more. “I wanted to give a platform to these slum kids and showcase their talent.” He then encouraged the kids of Dharavi, known as one of the largest recycling hubs, to use waste materials to make music. He had first written to Sheeran about the initiative in 2014. When the international icon performed in Mumbai in 2015, the band’s founder met him and requested a collaboration. During Sheeran’s India trip in March 2024, the pop star was more than happy to oblige. “Ed remembered our 2015 meeting and said, ‘I’m so excited to meet all the kids from your band.’ He also told the kids, ‘I think we are going to have fun during the performance.’”

Sumeet Raghavan: ‘I wouldn't like to repeat Sahil Sarabhai’

“I wouldn't like more characters like Sahil Sarabhai,” said actor Sumeet Raghavan when we asked him about his popular role in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. The actor’s answer took us off guard as we tried to wrap our heads around it. In an exclusive interview with mid-day.com, Sumeet discussed the highs and lows he endured in his career spanning 40 years. He shed light on the stigma attached to television actors, not working in the OTT space, and more.  The actor gained a lot of appreciation after playing Sahil Sarabhai in the popular sitcom ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’. But when asked about wanting to play more such roles, Sumeet shared that he wouldn’t like to take up any such character. Sumeet said, “No, I wouldn't like more characters like it, because Sahil Sarabhai is the only one. I want to do something else, you know, like Rajesh Waagale, which I am doing. Or I did Vasanth Ghotala. But I wouldn't like to repeat Sahil Sarabhai anywhere because that's a different show altogether.” When asked about his plan to do more OTT shows and films, the actor said, “This will be my 40th year of acting. So, I don't feel the need to go and approach people. I mean, my work is there for everyone to see. If something like OTT comes in, I will definitely do it.” Further, while elaborating, he said that he looks at wholesome entertainment while taking up any show. “That's why I am a little scared of doing OTT because there is no filter. So then, what kind of work will come? Of course, choosing is in my hands. That's why I feel that television is a safer bet. I get to do my kind of work. I get to do the work that people would like to see,” he shared. While talking about the stigma attached to TV actors, Sumeet shared, “I do feel that we get labeled as TV actors. Even in films, it is seen that, ‘no, no, he is a television face’. I really don't know what that means. I mean, if at all you have to, because normally what we do is, we always draw parallels with Hollywood. So there are many shows where main league actors come and do television. But having said that, I think, ‘television face’ should not be a term. An actor is an actor.” Sumeet, who is currently portraying the character of Rajesh Waghle in 'Waghle ki Duniya', also talked about the fear he had while working on a show that was already a cult. “I was scared before, but that fear, you know, how did it disappear? Because Aanjjan Srivastav ji and Bharati Achrekar ji, both of them are with us. I mean, the real Wagle, Radhika and Srinivas, when they are with you, more than half the battle is won. And then we have sub TV. And then we have hats off productions. So, it's a three-pronged attack. So, nothing can go wrong,” he signs off.

‘Tumour discovered in Rakhi Sawant’s uterus’: Former husband Ritesh

Reality television star Rakhi Sawant took the internet by storm after pictures of her lying in a hospital bed surfaced on social media. Amid several speculations and the possibility of a publicity stunt, her former husband Ritesh Raj Singh revealed that she was indeed unwell and claimed that a tumour had been discovered in her uterus.  Ritesh told News18, “She was admitted to the hospital last night after she complained of chest pain. Doctors are looking after her. They have discovered a tumour in her uterus. She had pain in her stomach too. Doctors have suspected that it might be cancer. Tests are being done. Doctors have proposed surgery but they want to check first if it is cancer or not.” Earlier, Ritesh urged everyone to pray for Rakhi’s speedy recovery and also slammed those who thought it was a joke. “Rakhi has created an image for herself where people think it’s all drama. If Rakhi is critical, then she is critical. The story of The Boy Who Cried Wolf is often repeated with her. The same scene has happened here. Now, when she is actually critical, a section of people think she is creating controversy, while others think she is pretending. Those who truly know her, please wish her well, and pray for her. She will recover soon,” said Ritesh.  Rakhi married Ritesh, a businessman, on July 28, 2019 in Mumbai. She revealed the same on 'Bigg Boss 15'. The two parted ways and Rakhi married Adil Khan Durrani in May 2022.  Rakhi later accused Adil of abuse and filed an FIR against him for taking money and jewellery from her. While talking to media outside Mumbai's Oshiwara police station, Rakhi claimed, "He came to beat me at home in the morning, I immediately called the police. He frequently visits my home and gives threats. Even today he came to beat me at home, and I was scared. He said that you defamed me in the media." The Police filed the FIR under IPC Sec 406, 420 498 (A) and 377. Adil recently married ‘Bigg Boss 12’ fame Somi Khan.

Ulka Gupta

Ulka Gupta: Pressure to be perfect has been hammered into my head

From the age of seven, Ulka Gupta has faced the camera and the pressures that came with it. Be it Saat Phere—Saloni Ka Safar or Jhansi Ki Rani, she left a lasting impression as a child actor. As an adult, she had headlined various daily soaps, and played pivotal roles in films including Simmba (2018). But the thirst to act is still unquenched. In conversation with mid-day, Gupta talks about her new show Main Hoon Saath Tere that highlights the plight of single mothers, and why acting has made her “a free bird.” Edited excerpts from the interview. From being a child actor to playing a mother, the journey has been arduous. How would you describe the highs and lows?I’ve not reached the point yet where I can have my own philosophy, but I have one. I believe no effort ever goes in vain. What you do, learn and experience, including rejections and failures, teach you something and mould you. People ask me why I am working in reverse gear, doing films, OTT and television. However, I’ve felt like a free bird from the time I became an actor. I feel that’s exactly how an actor should be—indiscriminating to any medium or platform. Do you feel TV content has become regressive or at least repetitive?I agree. That’s why I have refrained from taking up something typical. My filmography is diverse. I have never judged a show on [whether the story has been done before or not]. I believe whatever works for the society in terms of entertainment, works. Maybe that is where the audience finds their relief. We love listening to old melodies and their remixes. [Similarly, we can like watching the same story packaged differently.] In daily soaps, women are always presented as the ideal bahu/daughter/woman. Isn’t that putting too much pressure on women? The pressure of perfectionism is definitely unfair. Personally, it has been hammered into my head too. In television and movies, [women] have to be tolerant, always compromise, and still keep giving. To be giving and loving are good virtues, but tolerating everything is too much. But it also matters as to who our audiences are. Television predominantly caters to tier-II and -III cities, and they are culturally and socially at a certain stage. We have to deliver what they like. If this is the value system they hold, we can still inject some nice ideas within the same story. TV is also responsible for having influenced people’s mindsets [in a positive way]. Main Hoon Saath Tere is on that very track. How does your show positively influence the audience?Single women are not credited enough for all they do. Instead, they are only bothered, questioned and often at the receiving end of so much hatred. The show talks about her strength and the challenges she faces. Why is there a need to show the male protagonist then? Why can’t a woman’s life on screen be complete without a man? The story is not [trying to show] that a woman is incapable [without a man]. I have seen so many single mothers [brave it out]. It wasn’t distant from me when I had to do this role. Not saying that my father [was entirely absent], but my mom brought up three kids. I know of her being a single mother taking care of all of us. Main Hoon Saath Tere is a love story, centred on a single mother. Female and male energy can co-exist, and might need each other. We have to be patient to one day show the LGBTQiA+ stories [on television]. Is the audience influencing content or the other way around?I believe it works both ways. However, most of the time, content is [determined as per] the audience.
