Shilpa Shinde as Angoori Bhabhi

Shilpa Shinde breaks silence on exiting Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain: ‘I was sidelined’

Shilpa Shinde calls it “destiny” that she is reprising her role in Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain 2.0, nine years after she had an acrimonious split with the channel, &TV, and left the show. But in the interim, the actor was a regular viewer of the comedy that saw Shubhangi Atre step into her role of Angoori Bhabhi alongside Aasif Sheikh, and Rohitashv Gour. “I never felt any jealousy or drew any comparisons between her [Atre] and myself. I always thought to myself, ‘Bhabhiji toh main hi hoon. Chalo, aap kar lo.’ It’s been almost 10 years but wherever I go, I am still called Bhabhiji,” says Shinde. Even as she looks forward to replicating the show’s success with the 2.0 version, the actor reflects on the bitterness that had marked her exit in 2016. She had accused the makers of mentally torturing her, while the production house, Edit II Productions, had sent her a legal notice accusing her of breach of contract. Shinde recalls that “some people” in the channel tried cashing in on her character’s success. “At that time, every show except ours had flopped. So, these people wanted to exert control on our show. They tried to gain publicity for the channel through me. They sent me to a TV award ceremony in my character’s outfit! Whether from the channel or other authorities, the bottomline was to control me.” To Shinde, the episode taught her an  important life lesson. She recounts, “Even after giving everything to the show for a year, I was completely sidelined. A lot of misunderstandings were created. I took this experience as a lesson, it showed me the real [nature] of people. I didn’t have any complaints with my co-stars. There were people claiming that I had left Bhabiji… for another show. No one knew the reality.”

Christmas 2025: Celebs reveal their favourite festive movies

It’s that time of year when fairy lights twinkle, hot chocolate flows, and gifts spill out of stockings. ’Tis the season to be jolly, and we’re getting into the spirit with timeless Christmas classics taking over our screens. At the top of our festive watch-list is ‘Klaus’ (2019), the heart-warming hit that bagged the Best Animated Film honour at the 73rd British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) and earned a nomination at the 92nd Academy Awards. So, mid-day caught up with a few stars to discover their favourite Christmas films — and why these festive gems make the perfect watch on December 25, whether you’re curled up with family, friends, or that special someone. Kunal Kapur; (right) A still from ‘Home Alone’ Chef Kunal Kapur, who is set to judge the new season of MasterChef India, shares that Home Alone (1980) is his all-time favourite film. He says, “It has always been special to me because it’s the ultimate family movie. It about being together during the Christmas season. There are times when we have differences between siblings or within our extended families, and we may not always feel aligned with them, but the moment they go missing, you realise how much [they] matter and how much you love and adore them. The film also brings out all the innocence and naughtiness of childhood. For me, the movie symbolises family, harmony, love, and the joy of rekindling bonds with your loved ones.” Ranveer Brar; (right) A still from ‘Dunston Checks In’ While Home Alone remains an all-time favourite for many, including Neha Dhupia, MasterChef India judge Chef Ranveer Brar says, “One of my favourite Christmas movies of all time is Dunston Checks In [1996]. I think it’s one of those movies you can sit and watch with the entire family and share light moments of laughter. I think that’s what makes life special.” Shubhangi Atre; (right) A still from ‘The Holiday’ Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain actor Shubhangi Atre has two films on her “To Watch on Christmas” list — The Holiday (2006) and The Noel Diary (2022). “Both movies touched my heart. The Holiday, especially Kate Winslet’s [track], is very inspiring. It is a wonderful film about finding yourself and making a comeback in life. When you accept your weaknesses and still achieve success, it gives you a lot of strength. That’s why this film means so much to me.” This December is extra special for Atre because her daughter is flying down from the US, where she is studying Astrophysics, to celebrate the festival with her family. “I will definitely spend quality time with her. I will become Santa Claus for my daughter and make sure she feels all the love and joy,” adds the actor. Kunwr Vikram Soni; (right) A still from ‘Last Christmas’ Back home in Rajasthan, Kunwar Vikram Soni is making his list of films to watch this season, and at the top sits Last Christmas (2019), starring Emilia Clarke. “While growing up, we watched a lot of Christmas films that made us believe in miracles. But as we got older, we stopped believing in magic and miracles. This film, released just before COVID hit, somehow gave me hope and helped me keep believing in new beginnings and miracles,” shares the actor. Kanwar Dhillon; (right) A still from ‘The Polar Express’ Kanwar Dhillon’s Christmas plan is already fixed if he is not shooting for the daily soap Udne Ki Aasha. After visiting Mount Mary and enjoying time at the Bandra night market, he plans to join friends for a Christmas house party. “I’ve always loved the concept of The Polar Express [2004], where a young boy takes a magical train journey to the North Pole to meet Santa Claus. I have very fond memories of watching that film — in fact, I’ve seen it two or three times. It’s a beautiful story, and the way it was made is truly mesmerising and exciting. I personally like that film a lot,” says Dhillon. Neha Dhupia; Prajakta Koli; A still from ‘Christmas at the Chalet’ Neha Dhupia, dressed in all green, says the festive season began much earlier for her. She cites Home Alone as one of her favourite films, and Prajakta Koli agrees. “I am a sucker for Netflix’s Christmas movies like Christmas at the Chalet [2023]. I already know what is happening, but I will still sit down and binge-watch all those movies,” says Koli. Dhupia adds to the conversation, saying, “The moment you watch those Christmas movies, you wish my Christmas looked the same.”

Woh mujhe wo trigger nahi kar rahi thi kyuki mujhe pata tha ki maine kuch galat nahi kiya (Everyone else was overacting too much, and I was thinking why they would do this to look good on screen? I was not triggered because I knew I was right in my decision)."

Dharmendra and Mumtaz

Mumtaz charged Rs 18–20 lakh for Indian Idol 13 episode with Dharmendra

Back in 2023, Mumtaz made an appearance on the popular singing reality show Indian Idol 13 with superstar Dharmendra. The episode made headlines as it marked a rare joint appearance of the duo. In a recent interview, Mumtaz opened up about her experience of appearing on the show, which also marked her first-ever appearance on television. Mumtaz on her TV appearance During an interview with Vickey Lalwani on his YouTube channel, Mumtaz revealed why she stays away from television and what made her come on Indian Idol 13. She revealed that her appearance came with a fee of Rs 18–20 lakh. Mumtaz said, “Even today, they call me on television. When I went on TV for the first time with Dharam ji and danced with him on the stage, that was the only time I went on television. And till now, they have contacted me over one hundred times, and I told them about my price… They said that people do it in Rs 3-4 lakh, so I told them that I can’t say anything for those people; that’s their wish. They can do it for free also, but this is my price. I have always been like that…. I did only one show, and I took Rs 18-20 lakh for that. They said they can’t pay me, and I haven’t done it; I don’t want to do it. Paisa pheko, tamasha dekho (Throw money, enjoy the show)!” During the same interaction, she also addressed reports of rejecting the film Seeta Aur Geeta because of low pay. She said, "Not just fees. But yes, that was also one of the reasons. But, Ramesh Sippy sahab was a big producer and director at that time, so he thought I might do it in Rs 2 lakh because he was a big producer. Every big producer has their own ego issues. But thankfully, I was getting so many films already that I didn’t feel this film would do anything special for me. So, things didn’t work out between us. But you see, Hema Malini did it na.” Mumtaz was one of the highest-paid actresses in the 1970s. Mumtaz pays tribute to Dharmendra After Dharmendra's death last month, Mumtaz dropped a series of pictures with the late superstar, paying tribute. She shared stills from their film along with a picture featuring Dharmendra, Anju Mahendru, Poonam Sinha, Jackie Shroff, Danny Denzongpa, Talat Aziz, and Mumtaz herself. He was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital after reportedly complaining of breathlessness. Sourabh Raaj Jain and Shilpa Shinde

Sourabh Raaj Jain slams Shilpa Shinde for comment on Shubhangi Atre

Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain is one of the most popular shows on Indian television and has been on air for over a decade. The show’s lead female character, Angoori Bhabhi, was originally played by Shilpa Shinde in 2015. She exited the show within a year and was replaced by Shubhangi Atre, who went on to portray the character for nearly a decade. What Shilpa Shinde said about Shubhangi Atre Recently, Atre stepped down from the show, following which Shilpa Shinde returned to reprise the role. After her comeback, Shinde, in an interview with Telly Chakkar, remarked that Atre lacked comic timing. “Dekhiye, as an actor, maine us waqt bhi bola tha jab controversy chal rahi thi. Very frankly, usne kaam achha kiya hai. Achhi actress hai, but comedy sabke bas ki baat nahi hoti. Uske baad kisiko copy karna bohot mushkil hota hai, bohot pressure hota hai,” Shinde said. She further added, “Chahe main kitni bhi achhi acting kar loon, kisi actress ko copy karna ho toh wo copy ho jaati hai.” Sourabh Raaj Jain slams Shilpa Shinde Actor Sourabh Raaj Jain reacted strongly to Shinde’s remarks and indirectly criticised her via his Instagram Stories. Without naming anyone, he wrote, “A replaced actor entertained audiences for around 10 years and was loved throughout. When the first actor steps back into the same character she left 10 years ago and tells the media that the replaced actor lacks comic timing—no ma’am, it’s YOU who lack basic decency. IYKYK (sic).” Explaining why he shared the note, Jain added, “It’s for learning—for myself and like-minded people. Humility is what counts; everything else is transient (sic).” Shubhangi Atre on Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain exit Meanwhile, speaking about her decision to leave the show, Shubhangi Atre told Bombay Times, “I’m ending this replacement game now. When Shilpa left, it felt like she handed me a newborn baby. I raised it for 10 years and now I’m returning it to her with values and sanskars. I wish Shilpa and the entire team all the best for version 2.0. She’s a fantastic actor, and I’m genuinely fond of her.”

Isha Malviya

Laughter Chefs 3's Isha Malviya talks about cooking with Elvish Yadav

After bringing her 'Ek Number' energy to the initial episodes, Isha Malviya has emerged as one of Team Chhuri’s most charming showstopper on COLORS’ ‘Laughter Chefs Unlimited Entertainment S3’. While the kitchen thrives on chaos with partners plotting mid-task pranks, ingredients vanishing right when things get serious, and last-second rescues becoming a routine, Isha has carved out a space that feels undeniably hers. Whether she’s matching Elvish Yadav’s cooking game or grounding the team with her intuitive reactions, Isha’s natural ease in the middle of LC’s signature mayhem has already made her an instant favourite. Isha Malviya on her journey with Laughter Chefs Isha got candid about her journey with the show, "Walking into this kitchen felt like being dropped into the middle of a very lively group project where everyone already knows the shortcuts. The minute the action is called, you can see both teams switch focus. Team Kaanta tries to pick up speed, Team Chhuri tries to stay one step ahead, and in between all this, someone is already planning how to distract the other side. I didn’t expect the competition to be so heated and fierce; one has to keep an eye on one’s dish and on what the opposite counter is up to. What I enjoy is that there’s always some banter, some challenge, some moment that makes you forget you’re new to this. I feel very welcomed and included." On working with Elvish Yadav When asked about how has it been working with Elvish in the kitchen, Isha said, "Cooking with Elvish is honestly this strange blend of comfort and chaos. He walks into the kitchen with this quiet confidence, like he already has the whole dish visualised in his head. I, on the other hand, walk in trying to decode what the plan actually is. I won’t pretend there isn’t pressure. He’s a former winner - people expect things from him, and somewhere you don’t want to be the reason the momentum breaks. But Elvish has never made me feel like I’m catching up to him. He’s patient in a way most people don’t get to see.  Over time, we’ve found this rhythm where he kind of leads the dish, and I support the flow instead of tripping it. Our partnership shows in the outcome of each cooking battle." She further shared, "It’s been surprisingly easy to blend in because everyone here carries a different kind of charm. Some people take charge, some get dramatic in the funniest way, some stay calm no matter what’s happening around them, and together it creates a space where you automatically find your spot. I felt welcomed from the first day, whether it was someone cracking a joke to make me feel lighter or someone guiding me when I was clearly lost. Being around people like Krushna, Karan, Bharti ji and the others has been a learning experience in its own way; you pick up things just by watching how they hold the room, how they react under pressure or how they turn an ordinary moment into something people remember."

Deepika Singh shoots in sub-zero temperatures for Mangal Lakshmi

Actress Deepika Singh, who was shooting in Georgia for Mangal Lakshmi, spoke about her experience in sub zero temperatures and said that it gave her a chance to explore and adapt. Talking about her thoughts on shooting abroad, Deepika said: “Mangal Lakshmi has been a journey built on love, patience, and resilience, and the audience has stood by us through every phase. We have cried together, healed together, and celebrated every small victory. Shooting in Georgia feels like a reward for that shared journey. “ For the first time, Mangal’s journey unfolds on foreign soil as she wins a prestigious Pehla Swaad competition that takes her to Georgia. What begins as a celebratory milestone soon spirals into a tense turn of events that no one saw coming. Mangal heads to Georgia with Kusum by her side, while Adit tags along as Bhabhi ji’s trusted personal assistant. The scenic trip, meant to mark a proud moment for Mangal, suddenly turns perilous when a shocking case of mistaken identity puts Adit in grave danger. Amid chaos and uncertainty, Mangal is forced to make a life-altering choice that could change equations forever. Deepika added: “Very few shows get the opportunity to go international, and I feel incredibly grateful that our story has earned that trust and scale. This track is special for me because it pushes not just Mangal, but me as an actor as well, into completely unfamiliar territory.” Talking about shooting in an uncomfortable environment: “We were shooting in minus degree temperatures, facing conditions we are not used to, and while it was physically demanding, it was also incredibly exciting to get out of the comfort of the set.” “It gave me the chance to explore, adapt, and push my own boundaries as an actor. We have genuinely given our all to bring this chapter alive on screen, and I hope the audience feels that effort and enjoys this new chapter of Mangal’s journey.” Mangal Lakshmi airs on Colors.  This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies.
