Aishwarya Sakhuja says she does not view short format dramas as a transition, stressing story matters more than medium. She is consciously waiting for strong TV roles and believes shrinking audience attention spans and OTT habits are impacting long format television

Television actor Aishwarya Sakhuja, known for her versatile performances, recently opened up about exploring short format dramas, her time away from daily soaps, and the changing landscape of the entertainment industry.

Addressing her move into short dramas, she clarified, “I don’t see this as a transition because I am still acting. And now because we have so many mediums to explore so more the merrier but I look at the story and that’s about it. Whether you put me in theatre, ad, web. For me, it’s not a transition because it’s not like I am leaving acting and becoming a producer. I am still acting. So honestly, I don’t really care about the medium till the time the story is something that resonates with me.”
Speaking about her absence from television, Aishwarya said, “I have not been away from TV for a long time. In fact, last year I did a show which got pulled down very soon. But yeah, it’s been a year, yes. I am waiting consciously for a good role to come my way, definitely. I think that’s why this break. But it is not a very agreeable break because the thing is that the kind of roles that have come my way have not really excited me so I am just waiting.”
Aishwarya Sakhuja reflect on current state of TV
Reflecting on the current state of television, she observed, “What is going wrong, I don’t know. It’s funny but I know what is changing is that the audience is definitely changing. They no longer have the concept of appointment viewing for television. They no longer have the ability or patience to continue watching a show. They’ve gotten into the habit of seeing 8 episodes with a story panning out in 8 episodes. So the medium the OTT medium has kind of spoiled us for choices whereas television which is a long format medium I think now till the time in every episode if there is nothing dhamakedar happening, the audience attention we are unable to hold on to. So even when we are scrolling on our phones, I don’t think we give enough time for a reel also. If we don’t enjoy it in 5 seconds, we move on. So I think that’s what’s happening. The attention span of the audience is getting reduced by the day and I think in that sense the long format is kind of suffering.”
