Congress MP Shashi Tharoor is the latest to enjoy Netflix’s The Ba***ds of Bollywood, directed by debutant Aryan Khan, son of superstar Shah Rukh Khan. The show, which was released on the streaming platform last month and has been the talk of the town, has caught the interest of the senior politician from Kerala. Known for his articulate expression and command over the English language, the MP penned a thoughtful review of the show.

On Sunday, Tharoor took to X and wrote, "I’ve been battling a cold & cough and cancelled engagements for two days. My staff and my sister, smitatharoor, persuaded me to turn my eyes away from the computer part of the time towards a Netflix India series, and it’s one of the best things I have ever treated myself to: absolute OTT GOLD".
Just finished watching Aryan Khan's directorial debut, “The Ba***ds of Bollywood”, and I'm left grasping for words of praise. It takes time to grow on you, but then you’re irresistibly hooked! The writing is sharp, the direction is fearless, and the sheer audacity of this satire is just what Bollywood needed. A genius, often hilarious, sometimes moving, and always unflinching look beyond the glamour, sending up every cinematic cliche with razor-like wit — and a series of insider jokes that let the audience into the act & behind the scenes.
The seven compelling episodes mark the arrival of a true storytelling powerhouse. Take a bow, Aryan Khan—you’ve delivered a masterpiece: “TheBa***dsOfBollywood” is brilliant!
As a footnote, Tharoor addressed Shah Rukh Khan and wrote, "from one father to another, let me say: you must be so proud!"

Aryan Khan on his series inspired by reality
While speaking to Variety, Aryan Khan said, “We wanted to be self-deprecating, but not disrespectful anywhere. I think we maintained that line correctly. The guardrails were self-imposed because, when you’re part of the industry and making something about it, there’s a lot of respect. Taking a joke on yourself is the first and most important thing in comedy. People were extremely sporting, and we made sure never to push boundaries – only to laugh at ourselves.”
Aryan noted, “We were pushing it for screen, obviously, but obviously there’ll be things that are inspired. There’ll be scenes that are inspired on certain realities, and there’ll be exaggerations. It’s not obviously a documentary.”
“In this industry, there are many truths and many lies, often disguised as each other. That sense of mystery is what keeps audiences hooked, they may love it, hate it, or be intrigued, but they can’t ignore it,” he explained.
