Shweta Tripathi decodes her 10-week training to build endurance and be fighting fit for the action sequences of ‘Mirzapur: The Film’

Considering Mirzapur: The Film is being designed as a prequel to the popular series Mirzapur, Shweta Tripathi had to go back to how she looked in the opening season. To achieve her character Golu Gupta’s agility and petite frame, the actor trained with co-star Ali Fazal’s personal fitness coach Rohit Tyson.
She says the fitness coach focused on restoring her lean muscle tone, enhancing reaction speed, and stabilising the core, as the show requires her to perform raw, close-combat action. About training throughout the 10-week Varanasi schedule, Tripathi says, “Rohit started by assessing my posture, core stability, and how I transferred weight during movement. After that, everything was built around efficiency.”

The actor adds that building endurance was key since most of her fight sequences involved continuous choreography. “We did a lot of drills, resistance-band work for shoulder integrity, and repetitive striking sequences to build muscle memory. I had to condition my body so that my reactions looked instinctive. Even my punching had to be corrected at the wrist-alignment level so that the force travelled straight through.”
