Being a pet parent is never easy, especially if you’re new to it. Many brought home a little friend during the pandemic while others are anxious about leaving their pets home after resuming work. As gratifying as being a pet owner can be, there is no end to how much care and attention your pet needs. We’ve curated some useful mobile apps to help pet parents indulge and care for their pets.

Training and tricks

Puppr is a popular app to help you become a dog trainer. Ideal for experienced as well as new dog owners, the app includes a built-in clicker and step-by-step video instructions to help teach your dog tricks. Over 70 lessons by celebrity dog trainer Sara Carson are taught with positive reinforcement and cater to multiple dogs. Their premium subscription allows users to live chat with Sara and a team of expert trainers to get all their training questions answered.

Pet sitting

As many pet owners return to work, finding a day care or a walker might be difficult. PetBacker aims to create a community and connect pet parents, sitters, dog walkers, and groomers in major cities. The app helps pet owners hire a trusted pet sitter for minding, walking, boarding, grooming, and even day care. Selecting a care provider for your pet can be a stressful decision for most; this is where PetBacker comes in. The app isn’t restricted to dogs or cats, and includes hamsters, fishes, and even snakes.

First aid ready

It can be excruciating trying to guess what’s wrong with your pet, especially if you’re still getting used to your furry friends. The Pet First Aid app by American Red Cross gives pet owners access to veterinary advice for everyday emergencies so they’re prepared to act whenever anything goes south. Catering to cats and dogs, the app includes step-by-step instructions for over 25 common pet situations through a combination of video, text, and images. Interactive quizzes help pet owners retain important information pertaining to their pets’ health.

A mate for your pet

Haven’t we always wondered if there was a Tinder version for pets as well? Well, Petmate might be the closest option. The Indian app’s Pet Match feature helps pet parents to find playmates for their pets. Build a detailed profile and swipe through various others. The app allows users to sort through breed, age, gender, and even chat with pet parents nearby. Petmate also features adoption listings and a newsfeed where pet owners can interact and share pet news, gossip, and much more.

Travel with your dog

Travelling with pets can be complicated. Not all hotels or restaurants are welcoming of dogs, especially the bigger ones. Bring Fido has a global listing of pet-friendly hotels, attractions, and restaurants. Easy access to such pet-friendly information makes all the difference when travelling. Be it a dog park, beach, or trail, the app helps pet owners find and sort through the best alternatives available.
