The sixth annual Vinod Doshi Memorial Theatre Festival will feature five plays — three in Hindi, one in Gujarati and one in Marathi.

The event is held in memory of Vinod Doshi, who was passionate about theatre. The annual theatre festival started in 2009 to make Hindi and Marathi theatre accessible to as many enthusiasts as possible.

This year, the festival will present an eclectic mix of topics and tones, from established as well as budding directors. For the first time in the festival’s history, they will also stage an additional English play. This festival’s opening act will be Sangeet Garvanirvaan.

This edition will also have plays from Kolkata and Delhi and the festival has been termed as a “litmus test for first-rate theatre” by playwright Girish Karnad.

Ashok Kulkarni, director of the festival says that plays are premiered here. We choose to stage plays in different languages as the idea is to expose audiences to a larger variety of plays. “There will be an English play and we have got some commissioned plays as well like Bandish. There is an informal committee which decides which plays will be staged. There is no competition in the festival and ticket rates are nominal.”

On: February 25 to 28, 7.30 pm
At: Yashwantrao Chavan Natyagruha, Karve Road, Pune
