For a chic, relaxed vibe
When you enter Ministry Of New, located in Fort, the books at the reception desk will instantly catch the eye. It is a renovated version of Kitab Mahal. The décor, with classy furniture and blinds that open to Mumbai's colonial skyline, is striking. Violinist Ajay Jayanthi, who recently played there with singer-songwriter Zoya, loved the vintage ambience. "It is a place that anybody can use for performances. You can rent it for concerts. As soon as you enter, you will feel a creative outburst. I had a great Time playing. It has really good acoustics and the ambience is unparalleled," he says.

For the laughter

Residents in the eastern suburbs and Powai will no longer complain about being alienated from their counterparts in Bandra or SoBo. The Square not only offers entertainment but also doubles up as a space for fitness workshops and Salsa sessions. Stand-up comedian Adhiraj Singh says, "It is a intimate setting, which makes it great for comedy. A headliner gig can be houseful here. You can even push in 100 guests, if managed well."

For food and performances
Fat Man's Café & Grill, located in the heart of JVPD Scheme, is a perfect spot for youngsters to down a beer, enjoy stand-up gigs and sing along with musicians on weekends. Comedian Manish Tyagi says, "The layout is such that a performer can have eye-contact with the audience, which is a boon these days. I found that the acoustics were decent, and the crowd was interactive."

Across the road from Malad's popular Infiniti Mall, Creative Learning Arts & Performance (CLAP) is emerging as a new hub for the arts in the northern suburbs. With a packed calendar of plays and workshops, the space is abuzz with talent. Kunal Om, a Flamenco dancer, who will soon conduct a workshop at the venue, says, "It's a unique space for upcoming talent. They have taken the right initiative to bring all art forms together. It also has the perfect space required for Flamenco."

For an indie audience
Inside a residential colony in Goregaon West, Pitaara -- The Art Box spells art and creativity. It has an open-air stage, which is perfect for musicians and dancers, and an intimate indoor setting, best for storytellers. Singer-songwriter Rajesh Ravi, who frequently performs at the venue, says, "It doesn't have the distractions of a pub. The audience only comes for the show. They watch artistes without bothering about food and drinks," he says.
