While moving into a new home, the biggest challenge one faces is not just space allocation and picturing a perfect cosy corner for lazy reading; there is another battle ufffd giving character to the room. While you are out picking swatches for tapestry or deciding colour scheme, spare a thought for your floor rug too. That has pretty much been the mainstay of the hall-d ufffdcor in a house. For more reasons than one, it's easy to settle for a light-brown, outback mimicking, rope rug for one's small living space.

u00a0That's when this shop-around-the-corneru00a0 in Worli, Cocoon Fine Rugs threw up an open invitation. The basement of this 1,600 square feet store is a display of carpets, tapestries and runners, wall hangings and rugs arranged in mock living rooms, bedrooms, powder rooms and strung up the wall.

Cocoon Fine Rugs is a carpet boutique for high-end customers. Walking into the well-lit space with the overwhelming smell of fabric hung in the air, we first browsed through the basicu00a0 carpet collection. Cocoon has intelligently devised their range of rugs not by nation of origin, but by theme. They have three running themes ufffd Reflection, Dune and Colours of Life.

Head designer Ayush Choudhary has created artful tapestries that are more than just floor mats. Impressed by French tapestries and ancient textiles, we first checked out their limited collection of woven, decorative designs made with wool from New Zealand and Chinese silk. The two embroidered fabrics are interwoven to create a cut-work piece. Though priced on the higher side of the five digit figure, the starting price for such runners is Rs 15,000 and goes up according to the size of the carpet.u00a0

u00a0Next we check out an exquisite Persian carpet wall hanging that is au00a0 combination of contemporary colours like fuschia, blue and deep purple. The muted and bright tones create a fascinating interplay of hues in Persian designs from the Dune Collection, which is priced at Rs 18,000. We also liked a handspun rust and ivory coloured Ghazni wool Yyastik (a small rug or bag for sitting or leaning against), which has a grainy yet soft texture, priced at Rs 32,000.u00a0

u00a0While browsing further in this high-priced rug haven, what really caught our fancy was the range of abstract, free flowing designs in vibrant shades from the Colours of Life Collection ufffd a green handspun silk rug with a bee-hive design that looks eye-catching (Rs 16,000) can add life to any room.u00a0
