Even though, there's lot of buzz around phablets, iBall has rekindled the hope that all isn’t lost for tablets with its new Windows tablet, the Slide WQ32. Now, you might ask — How does that make a difference? Well, we believe there are still plenty of consumers out there whose work demands a device, which is portable like a tablet, but has the functionality of a desktop/laptop. Both Android and iOS as a tablet OS make no sense, as the two can’t offer anything beyond their smartphone versions, but replace it with Microsoft Windows 8.1, and the possibilities increase manifold. Agreed, it's not the best Windows ever, but despite that you suddenly have a device at hand, which can easily shift shape between a desktop and a tablet anytime, anywhere.

What’s inside?
The WQ32 is powered by the Intel Atom Processor Z3735D clocked at 1.33 GHz, the RAM stands at 2GB DDR3, the built-in-storage is 16GB (of which just 4.7 GB is available for local usage, but it supports external storage up to 64GB). The display is an 8-inch IPS screen with a resolution of 1280x800, the density is not great, but decent enough for comfortable reading. In terms of connectivity, it supports Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi, and comes with an in-built slot for 3G data connectivity, taking the ratings several notches higher. The 14Wh polymer battery easily lasts for 5-6 hours. It also comes with a micro HDMI slot and OTG USB support, further expanding its abilities. And, it is priced within 17K.
What we liked
...all of it, including what we stated above. Add a Bluetooth keyboard, a mouse and external SD card to the device and you have a full PC in your palm. This may not be the fastest Windows device in the market, but the in-built RAM and USB support is enough to get you going with all your office tasks during those long travels. Browsing is easier, as the display, is visible from every angle. The device plays media with ease. The 8-inch screen might be a worry for publishing tasks. But if you need a larger screen, the HDMI support should work fine. Alternatively, you can increase the size of items on the screen by adjusting the display as per your needs.
What we didn’t like
Firstly, the cameras — 5MP AF rear camera and 2MP front camera (available only for video chatting) are too basic for any good use, and a major drawback. Secondly, perhaps a longer battery life, and a few accessories on the iBall website could make things easier. But at this price, we can’t expect the world.
Our verdict
Overall, the device is more of a portable PC, and may not have much to offer to those who love an Android/iOS-like experience. But if you prefer the multi-functionality of Windows 8.1, grab it now.
