Check out Nave Valan, a Marathi film festival at NCPA, where seven movies from different genres will be screened this week
We work, slog, slouch throughout the weekdays. But then comes the weekend which brings along a fresh zest and prompts us to set ourselves free from the mundane routine and head for a well-deserved break. Watching a good movie is often a great way to unwind yourself, and what if you can get to watch a bunch of them belonging to a different genre under the same roof?

This week, head to a new direction, a different venue to watch some critically acclaimed Marathi movies as National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) is set to play host to a film festival called Nave Valan. Although the festival commenced on October 4 and has screened three movies — Pune 52,
Tuhya Dharma Koncha and Popat, there’s still more in store for you.
National Award winning movie Anumati will be screened today at 3 pm. Directed by Gajendra Ahire, the movie showcases the journey of a man’s struggle to save his wife who means the world to him. The cast comprises Vikram Gokhale, Neena Kulkarni and Reema Lagoo. The other movie that will be screened today at 6.30 pm is again director Gajendra Ahire’s Touring Talkies, which shows Chandi struggling to save her touring talkies from going out of business in the male-dominated world of travelling cinemas.
Speaking about the movies, Ahire says, “I am glad that two of my movies will be screened on the same day. I’m looking forward to see a large number of audiences at the venue. The two movies are on completely different subjects and I hope they will strike a unique chord with the audiences.”
Cinema lovers still have some more pleasant surprises coming in. The festival will screen a premiere show of the movie Lagna Pahave Karun on October 7 at 6.30 pm. “The film is a romantic musical that deals with the subject of arranged marriages and the influence of astrology on it. Two young entrepreneurs, Aditi played by Mukta Barve and Nishant played by Umesh Kamat, start a marriage bureau based on emotional, physical, social and financial compatibility. Along the way they fall in love with each other. But will their marriage survive these modern compatibility tests is something one should watch out for,” says Ajay Naik, director of the movie.
The last movie that will be screened in this festival has achieved yet another milestone success. 72 miles — Ek Pravas will be screened on October 8, 6.30 pm. Directed by Rajeev Patil the movie is set in the backdrop of the ’60s era revolving around the life of a 13-year-old boy named Ashok who runs away from his hostel in Satara to head to his hometown in Kolhapur. The film explores the protagonist’s 72 mile-journey while introducing strong characters who leave an indelible impact on his life.
