Going from cute Hollywood boy to the muscular prince in sandals, alongside the high-pitched Gemma Arterton, is no easy feat. And Jake Gyllenhaal has his trainer to thank.

Personal trainer Simon Waterson went as far as to compare the workout to that of a professional athlete's. The workout includes parkour (a French sport where you move across landscapes by running, climbing and jumping), intense cardio and lifting weights every alternate day for that drool-worthy buff look.

But what's exercise without diet? Jake couldn't have achieved six-pack status if he were scarfing down pepperoni pizzas and cream puffs. Waterson and Jake both attribute 90% of Jake's fab body to a less-than princely diet.

Jake ate protein-rich meals, six times a day that included lots of green, leafy veggies, fruits and nuts. He continued to battle with cravings for his favourite Pittsburgh 'Primanti Sandwich' (think French fries, grilled meat and coleslaw between two slices of Italian bread).

Dark chocolate andu00a0 the occasional glass of wine are some of the treats he looks forward to, only because they are rich in flavanoids. Now that's the stuff of a royal repast.
