Located underneath the Mahalaxmi Flyover, with an assembly line of nondescript enterprises and warehouses surrounding it, is the Everyday Project, a design shop offering an exclusive range of products created at their in-house studio as well as sourced from across the globe.

Everyday Project is the brainchild of designer Ajay Shah and wife Maithili. It surfaced after several years of working on projects that combine product, space and graphics and designing homes, shops and food courts. Putting the experience to good use, the Everyday Project offers products that help consumers get their daily dose of design.
“This space helps us experiment and develop new ideas and concepts without restricting us to the mechanics of bulk production. The products on display are some of my personal favourites and these designs are only available at our store in the city. The designers were very particular about displaying at a store that matches their design sensibilities,” avers Ajay Shah. Terming the designs as “fat-free designs”, Shah adds that the motto inscribed in his studio — As little design as possible — holds true for all the products at the Everyday Project as well.
Some of the products on offer at the spacious shop include colourful Crumpled City maps (Rs 1,445) by Italian brand Palomar, which includes non-paper, waterproof crumpled maps of places such as Amsterdam, San Francisco, New York and Milan. There are kid-friendly versions as well, which are brighter and easier to decipher.
Check out the Unit Portables from Sweden (Rs 6,745), which are detachable bags that can hold your wallet, laptop, iPad and other portable gadgets. Art lovers can catch a glimpse of exclusive woodblock posters by British graphic designer Anthony Burrill (Rs 4,595 onwards) and book lovers can browse through books by designers such as Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, as well as international magazines such as Apartamento and Monocle.
The Sucker Punch (Rs 2,545), which resembles a rubber doorknob, can be attached to any surface to hang your clothes or other objects and is quite handy. Also displayed here are the in-house Industrial Playground range of products, which includes chairs, benches and tables.
The Anything range of stylish staplers, scissors and erasers is sure to impress stationery lovers. We also liked their recipe and wine journals (Rs 1,250), which are made from recycled paper and can help you jot details of recipes you chance upon and track the varieties of wine you sip. Don’t miss the liquid bookmarks (Rs 1,245) in colours such as bright red and black. Made from rubber, they appear to have a liquid sheen and are perfect for whodunit page-turners.
