The attention span of Gen Y possibly just got shorter with the launch of the country's first youth-based web TV: www.Fadoo.TV
Type fadoo.tv in the navigation bar of your Internet browser and you will be directed to a web page resembling a dingy wall with graffiti messages, including 'uncle/anties (sic) stay away', 'enter at your own risk', and 'strictly for youth'. Signs similar to ones we plastered on our room doors as teenagers. Some things don't change. Though, the one thing that has changed is the mouse pointer on this site, which has the middle finger, instead of the index finger,u00a0 sticking out.
Fadoo.tv, its founders say, will fill the entertainment void in the lives of Gen Y, who, according to their research, spend most of their free time on the Internet. Easy Internet access in college, at home, and through mobile phones, makes the youth the right
target for web TV.
99 channels and
nothing on?
"There is no content for the youth on TV channels today. Plus, with TV there is the constraint of sticking to scheduled programming," says 23 year-old Raj Konar, co-founder of fadoo.tv.
"The youth don't have the time to sit in front of the TV all day, and with web TV, they have the flexibility of watching whatever they want at their convenience," adds the former advertising professional, who set up the site with 19 year-old Prasad Ambre.
Raj says they plan to have shows based on bikes, cars, hacking, sex, peer pressure, doping, celeb talk, all done in a fadoo (read different) way.
For now though, there are two teasers of a show called BTW on the website. "We are waiting to get a specific number of hits on the website before rolling out the actual content," says Raj, adding, "We have already shot seven episodes of BTW, which will air from October 25."
The episodes are hosted by bike professional Khalid Shaikh, who has been in the bike modification industry for the last five years.
The team behind fadoo.tv realises that they face tough competition from youth channels on TV, but remain unfazed. The quality of programming looks quite professional, gauging from what is available on the website.
"The advantage we have, by virtue of being on the Internet, is that our shows will remain interactive.
Audiences have the power to provide us with instant feedback through the comments feature. So, we can modify and update shows accordingly," says Raj.
