There might finally be a constructive solution to Mumbai's endless traffic jams. Adometer, a vehicle media company, is offering to stick advertisements on your car, so you can earn yourself some easy moolah, while giving the guy stuck in a jam behind you something interesting to read.
If you travel through areas with high levels of traffic congestion, including Andheri, Bandra, Peddar Road, Colaba and Mahim Junction, register yourself with Adometer, get your car plastered, and let the vehicle take care of its EMI.
The idea struck stockbroker Karan Bharadwaj six months ago, while he was caught in what seemed like an endless traffic jam. The situation got Bharadwaj thinking about how to compensate for the fuel burnt. "People spend so much money on buying a vehicle. Most have to pay monthly EMIs and vehicle insurance also costs a lot. Add to that fuel and maintenance costs and it becomes an even more expensive deal. With Adometer, vehicle owners can take care of at least some of the expense," says Karan, who has partnered with entrepreneurs Vishal Shah and Kiran Rao on the venture.
According to the plan, vehicle owners (both private and rental car owners) will be compensated depending on the surface of the car covered by the ad. "The amount depends on three thingsu00a0-- the size of the car, the area the ad is displayed (bumper, side doors or full wrap) and the driver's daily route," says Karan.
Adometer promises vehicle owners between Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000 per month. The company provides car owners the option of getting compensated through cheque, insurance fee waivers, fuel vouchers or vouchers of the brand being endorsed. "It's like endorsing the brand while getting paid for it," says Karan.
The trio have spent months on research to ensure the stickers don't damage the vehicle or the car owner does not have to deal with RTO officials. They claim to have almost 7,000 cars registered already, with advertisers from sectors including FMCG companies, holiday planners, retail, realty, and media houses showing keen interest. It's time to sign up, we say.
As long as somebody is paying me to take care of the car, why not! But my car should not get ruined. Also, I will only put advertisements of cool brands on my car. Nothing faltu!
- Swati Chopra, talent management executive
The concept sounds really good, as I end up spending a huge chunk of my salary on paying the EMI for my car. But I wouldn't want the entire car to be wrapped (in the advertisement) as it'll lose its identity.
- Deepali Maharshi, HR manager
