Scuring admission in the college of your choice is one thing and making a style statement in the campus is quite another. The Guide brings you the designers' hot picks for the fucchas this year
Coco Chanel once said "Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening." When it comes to fashion, students of Delhi University swear by it. 
We encounter some Mean Girls, some Gossip Girls and then there are the plain Janes. Among guys, some are inspired by Joel McHale or Michael Hall and some are just high on brand quotient. Phew! Different folks, different strokes, but at the end of the day, no fuccha wants to get caught by the fashion police run by the senior batches -- inside the college or out of it.
Keeping this sentiment in mind, we approached some designers to have their take on the fashion which would be 'in' this semester. Let's take a look.
Designer Jasleen Kochhar says: "Floral designs give you a chic look. Summer is in full swing, so shorts will be a smart investment. Apart from this, jumpsuits would be the in-thing. It looks good and is comfortable to wear too. Girls can sport trendy bangles with it to complete the look."
But what about
menfolk? Kocchar advises: "Boys can wear solid coloured pants and team them up with a bright belt. Hairstyle makes a lot of difference, so they can experiment with their looks by changing it often."
Janpath, Sarojini Nagar Market, Kamla Nagar are some places the students have been frequenting for donkey's years. Time to look at new places? "High street brands cater to the youth crowd although flea market stuff continues to be popular. Sale is the right season to be in the malls," says Kocchar.
Designer Paras Bairoliya of Paras and Shalini believes that students should wear breathable clothes because they have to spend a lot of time outside. "They can sport nice tees, tunics, and team them up with capris, slacks or jersey tights. Cargo pants are back in trend. Wear flip flops and complete your look with a big bag. If girls want to spruce up their look, go for wedges instead of flats. Accessorising your phone is in vogue."
Designer Rahul Jain of Rahul and Gunjan fame opined that cotton is the fabric for any pattern and style. "Delhi is too hot, therefore students should go for airy and light clothes. Boys can wear baggy jeans with a pair of branded slippers and girls can don scarves in bright colours."
"I pick my shirts from a highstreet brand often," said Jain when asked where to select the wardrobe from.
Designer Gaurav Gupta, however, has a different take on fashion for college students. "The youth of today is losing out on how cool Indian clothes are. Guys should wear kurta-pajamas and it would be nice to see girls in kurtis and suits. I don't believe in trends. Comfort should be the primary concern. Also, wear something in which your feel confident.
But if Talked about the Westernwear, girls can sport suspenders if they want a different look. Wearing hats would be great too! You can shop online too." "You can't be flippant about the way you dress or people will not take you seriously," confessesu00a0 Maitri Sharma, a second year student from IP University. Sounds sad, but borders on reality. Being fashionable is one thing but hopefully, Gen Y realises that it is important to be comfortable in their own skin first before donning an outer facade. Team it up with a right attitude! That'll make those heads turn for sure.
