The BlackBerry Z3: A gorgeous game changer

BlackBerry

A couple of months ago, most of us had written off BlackBerry as a smartphone, mostly due to the complexity involved in operating its touch phones, and secondly due to the lack of apps for the OS running the device. With Z3, however, BlackBerry has not only solved these issues but has managed to offer much more than that.

Use all Android apps on the Z3
If apps is what made you choose an Android or iPhone device, you will be glad to know that with the Z3, you can use most of the Android apps available in the market. If you already have the installer of an app, all you have to do is to transfer it to the Z3’s memory, install it, and you’re good to go. This feature, single-handedly, makes the Z3 the game changer it was hoping to be. We ran several Android apps, on the device, and all were running fine.

Stunner with decent specs
The Z3 is available only in black and comes with a soft back panel, giving it a smooth feel. The edges are sharp, and its rectangular shape gives it a solid premium feel. In short, the Z3 is as gorgeous as a BlackBerry should be. However, in the inside, BlackBerry seems to have made a few compromises, starting with the 1.2 MP camera in front and the 5MP camera in the back. Moving on, though the 5-inch screen of Z3 comes with a decent resolution of 540x960, offering a density of approximately 220ppi, the images could have been clearer. The Z3 runs on a decent dual core 1.2 GHz Qualcomm processor, and offers an in-built storage of 8GB, and an impressive 1.5GB RAM. It supports external memory cards up to 32GB. The battery is impressive, lasting full day, at least 12-13 hours, on 3G.

Finally, a no-frills BlackBerry
A second issue that most new users had with BlackBerry phones, was how it required a different data plan to run its core features, like BBM and email. This, fortunately, has been sorted out in the Z3. Simply swap your SIM card (it uses micro SIM card) and you’re sorted. Besides, data migration, including transferring contacts is a lot easier with the access to Android apps.

The BlackBerry Priority Hub, which collates all your messages and notifications into one common platform, is another reason what makes the Z3 a desirable phone, especially among those who are required to stay connected with people on email and other social networking sites 24x7.

Overall verdict
At Rs 15,990, the Z3 is easily the best budget BlackBerry touch phone ever, and can easily be the next popular budget phone, largely because of exclusive services like the Priority Hub, decent specs and compatibility with Android apps.
