Trying hard to ignore one's physical shortcomings (read: hot bod), a visit to Powai's newest wellness address was met with measured caution. The sunlit, roomy interiors at Svastii were a refreshing distraction. Each room is uniquely designed and brushed in different colours; white being the defining shade.

There's a hot-and-cold pool in which clients dip their feet into the pool before every session. Post this teaser into holistic haven, I was whisked in for my dose of de-stressing - the Hawaiian Lomi Lomi holistic therapy (Rs 2,760). My spa room, done up in earthy tones, had a comfortable low-seating corner, a soak cubicle as well as a shower, as Classical notes interluded the space. After a warm water soak for the feet, my soft-spoken Burmese masseur took up the challenge to de-stress a hopeless workaholic.

Lomi Lomi means massage in Hawaiian, and is a unique technique, which involves prayers, chanting, massage as well as dancing the hula. I wasn't party to any of the above, but it certainly came close to a spiritual experience. Starting from each leg, the massage was given in a slow, fluid, rhythmic motion using the forearms as well as the hands.

Deadlines and probing issues faded away. I could've been sailing by Honolulu's coast. A deep sense of balance and harmony overtook me. A mix of organic oils was used during the nearly one hour ritual, which moved from feet to back, neck, face and ended with the scalp getting a surefire switch-off.

What's comforting about the massage is the lack of vigorousness or sudden movements on the body, adding to the calmness quotient. Stress and tension had been phased out even as I felt an oft-forgotten sense of lightness. Mission successful. And, god bless the Hawaiians!
