Raga Rang at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) will feature Raga-based songs from Hindi films which will be performed by Parthiv Gohil
In a nation obsessed with Bollywood and oblivious, at times, to classical music, Raga Rang aims to promote classical music among the audiences. Singer Parthiv Gohil will help the audiences appreciate the rich raga legacy of Hindustani classical music by associating particular ragas (Yaman and Bhairavi) with a corresponding raga-based film song.
Explaining the concept behind the event, Gohil says, “Around six months ago, we did a similar programme with the NCPA, and it was a huge hit. It inspired me to design yet another show based on ragas. In this, we will present a pure form of raga followed by different renditions of it. The line-up will include popular new and old songs, Ghazals and Bhajans.”
While Gohil refuses to disclose the exact song selection, he assures us that the event will be “a memorable musical”.
Gohil began his music training at a young age with Bhanu Solanki, Daksha Mehta and Laxmipati Shukla, and went on to win the Pandit Omkarnath Thakur competition, followed by the state talent search competition. Under the gurukul scholarship scheme, he also trained under Zia Fariduddin Dagar. He has also sung for movies such as Devdas, Saawariya, Vaada Raha and so on.
