With Independence Day here, a lot of people are looking to getaway for the weekend. While many have already planned international trips, others are travelling domestically.

According to Skyscanner’s Smarter Summer Report, Indian travellers are approaching 2025 with a ‘maximiser mindset', prioritising value, flexibility, and experience-rich itineraries, with 96 per cent planning the same or more trips than last year.

However, even with clear travel goals and preferences, nearly half (49 per cent) haven’t booked yet and 38 per cent say it is due to destination indecision.

These are the five popular domestic getaways as per Skyscanner’s Smarter Summer report. Whether you're craving beach calm, café culture, or mountain air, these are on everyone's list.

Goa
Goa in August? It’s not what you’d expect, and that’s exactly the charm. Monsoon showers breathe fresh life into the coast, turning the state’s lush interiors into a cinematic green paradise. Think quiet beaches under moody skies, treks to hidden waterfalls, and long afternoons in boho cafés tucked away in Assagao. According to the global travel app's Gen Z Travel Statistics Report, 62 per cent of Gen Z say food is the most important factor when picking a holiday destination. And, Goa’s local eats deliver! Even better, it’s off-season, which means boutique stays and flights come at friendlier prices.

Bengaluru
If a city break is calling, Bengaluru’s got the vibes, think morning filter coffee in Indiranagar, afternoon treasure hunts through vintage markets in Chickpet, and golden-hour chilling at rooftop breweries. This city is basically a choose-your-own-adventure story for every traveller: art pop-ups, plant-filled co-work cafés, indie music gigs, and oh, the weather? Absolutely on peak in August. And because we like to make your plans easier, here’s a hack: book your arrival on Friday to stretch every hour.

Kochi
Kochi is where heritage meets slow travel, a perfect fit for Indian traveller’s value-led mindset. Wander through Fort Kochi’s art galleries, hop on a ferry through the backwaters, and try hyperlocal cuisine in beautifully restored homestays. It’s a coastal city that offers calm without the cliché. In fact, who doesn’t wish to maximise this weekend? A cheatsheet would be to consider flying at the earliest to maximise your time, because smart timing means more exploring, and less rushing.

Port Blair
Looking for blue water and fewer crowds this summer? Port Blair and the Andamans serve up island life without the international prices or passport hassle. Hop a ferry to Havelock for snorkelling in turquoise waters, hammock naps under palm trees, and beach cafés that feel straight out of Bali, all just a domestic flight away. It’s the kind of laidback escape that feels luxe but stays budget-friendly.

No wonder quiet getaways are having a moment, 66 per cent of Gen Z travellers, according to the app's Gen Z Travel Statistics Report, are actively seeking less-crowded destinations to escape the usual tourist chaos, and the Andamans are riding that wave.

Leh
If your vibe is "disconnect to reconnect", Leh is your soul-soothing escape. Immerse yourself in the surreal blues of Pangong Lake, the otherworldly pull of Magnetic Hill, and the winding thrill of Khardung La, one of the highest motorable roads in the world. Ride into the vast beauty of Nubra Valley, where sand dunes meet snowy peaks, or slow down at ancient monasteries that feel frozen in time. It’s no wonder this high-altitude haven tops the list for travellers.
