Rajasthan beauty Suman Rao is in London to represent India at the Miss World 2019 pageant and has been posting about her journey ahead of the glitzy event to be held on Saturday.
Rao has been posting about the tasks given to the contestants along with her travels in the city. She is seen to have been bonding well with other contestants too.
In this photo, wearing a Falguni and Shane Peacock lehenga for what looks like her national costume, Rao captions, "Strength. Power. Freedom. Confidence. Love. Self empowerment. That’s what she saw when she looked at herself in the mirror. And she mattered."
She poses in an Amit Aggarwal gown for a photoshoot as part of the pre-pageant competition. She calls this look as one of her favourite.
She pays homage to her home state in this bright pink churidar kurti, worn for an event with the Baronness Scotland of Ashtal, the seniormost Commonwealth official.
In her most recent post on Instagram, she announced that she has been qualified as one of the Top 40 finalists who would be competing with her for the coveted Miss World crown.
She was crowned Miss India 2019 by her predecessor Anukreethy Vas, Miss India 2018 in the pageant held in June this year in Mumbai. Bihar's Shreya Shankar was crowned Miss India United Continents 2019, while Chhattisgarh's Shivani Jadhav won Miss Grand India 2019 crown.
From the judges to hosts the pageant was the star-studded affair. The finale of Miss India 2019 was hosted by Karan Johar Vicky Kaushal and Miss India-World 2017 Manushi Chillar. The ceremony was held at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Indoor Stadium in Mumbai.
Suman Rao said she is honoured and happy to have won the title. "It still hasn't sunk in. I feel that I've become a ray of hope to the society where I come from and now other young women like me will never be afraid to follow their dreams. My family and friends are thrilled and I can't wait to celebrate with them," she said in a statement.
Suman Rao was born in Udaipur, Rajasthan and brought up in Mumbai. The 20-year-old model was born on November 23, 1999 to Ratan Singh Rao and Susheela Kanwar. Her father is a businessman and mother is a homemaker. Suman has two brothers Chirag Singh Rao and Jitendra Rao.
Suman Rao is currently pursuing a Charted Accountancy course from New Delhi along with B.Com.
Suman Rao loves dancing and it is one of her passion. She is also learning the classical dance form, Kathak. However, more than dancing, she counts modelling as her biggest passion.
When it comes to beauty pageants, Suman Rao has been the first runner up of Miss Navi Mumbai 2018, Miss Rajasthan 2019 and now she is the latest Miss India 2019.
During Miss India 2019 pageant, Suman Rao spoke about how strongly she feels about gender inequality and the stereotypes that we face in the world
During the pageant, Suman Rao spoke about gender equality. She said, "I come from a community where gender inequality and other stereotypes are still into existence, so when I saw two primary choices in front of me, to either accept the conditions those were in existence or to take the responsibility for changing the same, I chose the latter one."
Suman Rao turned her passion for modelling into survival for some time and now has higher dreams to achieve. "When you get yourself determined towards a particular goal in life, every single nerve and fibre of your body starts working into that direction for a victorious journey," she said in an interview
