Mental health doesn’t mean profound terms such as ‘depression’. More often than not, small, seemingly insignificant factors of contemporary life pile up invisibly, becoming a burden on the mind. Mental Health Foundation is a quiet corner of the Internet, which offers exhaustive written content on these ‘little factors’, be it constant exposure to negative news, living in times of political uncertainty, doomscrolling, body image, and dealing with the delicate niche that is children’s mental wellbeing.

The experience of living with and taking care of a loved one suffering from a mental health condition can be as exhausting as having one yourself. Mumbai-based author and journalist Jerry Pinto’s book, A Book of Light: When a Loved One Has a Different Mind (2016) (Speaking Tiger Books) sheds light on the invisible pains and challenges of being a caregiver. It encapsulates this subject through a compilation of personal stories of 13 such caregivers for different types of patients, touching upon common issues such as despair, grief, and frustration.
