Acting on a tip-off, police arrested Warje resident who confessed to killing a man found with injuries on body alongside Pune-Bangalore highway on July 31; police earlier suspected that the man had died in a mishap
Three months after registering a case of accidental death, police yesterday arrested au00a035-year old man for bludgeoning a man to death in July. Police received a tip off last week wherein an informer told them that a Warje resident had murdered the man.
Based on the inputs received, police picked up Uttam Dnyanoba Wanjale (35), from his residence in New Ahiregaon in Warje, after which he confessed to the crime. The reason behind the murder could not be ascertained yet, said Warje police.
On July 31, the grievously injured body of Shivaranappa Mallikarjun Padshetty, a 55-year-old person from Apte colony in Warje, was found near Aditya Garden complex on the Pune-Bangalore highway. Padshetty was found lying in an open space near the complex after which Warje police team had taken him to hospital for treatment.
Padshetty had suffered serious injuries to his head and doctors opined that the wounds sustained could possibly be due to an accident. After his death, citing the medical report, police registered a case of accidental death.
But, on October 25, a witness — name withheld — to the crime called up Warje police and told them that Wanjale had actually murdered Padshetty by smashing his head with a stone. After the tip-off, Wanjale was picked up by Warje police and interrogated, during which he confessed his crime. Wanjale was produced in the court yesterday.
While seeking police
custody of the accused, public prosecutor Waman Koli said, “Police have still to ascertain the exact motive behind the murder and have also to recover the stone, and any other weapon used by him to commit the crime.
They have also to seize any other circumstantial evidence in this case, and hence police custody of Wanjale is needed.” u00a0Considering the prosecution’s reasons, the court remanded Wanjale in police custody till October 30.u00a0
