New Delhi: With the arrest of four notorious robbers, police today claimed to have cracked 50-odd cases, including that of the murder of a security guard in central Delhi's Paharganj area. The accused Ekant Bansal (34), Rakesh Kumar (27), Manoj (45) and Chander Shekhar (37). Chander Shekhar is a Meerut-based jeweler was the receiver of the stolen property.
About 20 kgs jewellery and utensils, Rs 1.70 lakh in cash, six laptops, 20 mobile phones, two cars, two motorcycles, gas cylinders, CNG cylinder, cigarettes cartons, readymade garments and house breaking equipments have been recovered from them, the police.

On November 13 last year, a watchmen from Paharganj area called up the police control room around 2.20 AM and informed that he and his uncle were severely beaten up with rods by a group of men who had come to the market in a car to execute an alleged burglary. The complainant's uncle was admitted in a hospital and later he succumbed to his injuries.
Later during investigation, it emerged that another burglary had taken place in Najafgarh area on the same night and the accused had come in a car. "On January 15 during investigation, the police received a tip off and arrested Ekant and Rakesh who were approaching a picket set up near Paharganj in their car.
They were followed by Manoj, approaching the picket in another car," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Parmaditya. During interrogation, they revealed that the three had met in the jail and formed a gang.
They started executing burglaries and robberies all over Delhi soon after they were released.
They also revealed that Chander Shekhar was a Meerut-based jeweller, to whom they use to sell of the robbed gold and silver ornaments and other antiques. A police team was sent to Meerut and Chander was arrested immediately, Parmaditya added.
