Jaipur: Police in Rajasthan have detained seven persons in connection with the rape of a 20-year-old Japanese tourist, officials Tuesday said.

"We have detained seven persons in connection with the rape incident... We have also identified the main accused in the case and are searching for him," D.C. Jain, Inspector General of Police, Jaipur range told IANS.

He said the main accused has been identified as Ajit Singh Chaudhary, a 24-year-old man who works as a tourist guide and does marketing for shops.

"Serious efforts are being made to arrest the main accused. We may also likely arrest these seven persons who have been detained after their interrogation," Jain said.

A 20-year-old Japanese tourist had Monday filed a complaint in Dudu police station, over 60 km from here, accusing a man of raping her, police said.

The incident occurred late Sunday night. Presenting himself as a tourist guide, Ajit offered to show the woman around. After visiting a few places, he took her to a secluded place and raped her, Jain said.

She later reached the police station in Dudu and lodged a complaint.
