The National Conference (NC) on Monday demanded the arrest of soldiers named in an FIR in the killing of two civilians in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district. Participating in an assembly discussion on the killings, NC senior leader, Ali Muhammad Sagar, said: "We hope the Chief Minister (Mehbooba Mufti) would soon announce that the army men involved in the killing... have been arrested."


Two youths, Javaid Ahmad and Suhail Ahmad were killed in army firing in Ganowpora village on Saturday when a protesting mob attacked an administrative convoy of the army. The state government has ordered a magisterial probe, while the police has lodged an FIR against 10 Garhwal unit of the army in the incident. The FIR among others, mentioned a Major, as an accused.
