Wanted brothers injure cops, escape

Constable Mohan Shinde was attacked by goons with a chopper

A thug in time…saved another on Saturday, when two goons, brothers-in-arms, joined forces to bash up the cops and escape from the clutches of the law.

The incident took place around 1.30 pm on Saturday when constables Mohan Shinde and Dinkar Zaibai received a tip-off that a known history-sheeter, Mustafa Fakir Mohommad Shaikh, was going to come to road number 3 in Shivaji Nagar to commit a crime. The two cops slipped into civil outfit and waited for Shaikh.

When Shaikh arrived, was taken by surprise and overpowered by the two cops. However, as he was being taken towards the police van, his brother Farooq, who had spotted the cops, ambushed the duo and attacked Shinde with a chopper. As Shinde screamed in pain and Zaibai tried to help his colleague, the two brothers escaped.

Senior Police Inspector Radhesham Agarwal from Shivaji Nagar police station told SUNDAY MiD Day, “The two constables were intentionally sent in civil clothes so that it becomes easier to catch the men. But we were not aware that Farooq would be there too. He stabbed Shinde twice on his back with the chopper and ran away. Zaibai then took Shinde to a local hospital. He was discharged later in the evening.”

Mustafa Shaikh is wanted in two assault cases under Sections 324 and 326 of the penal code (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) while his brother Farooq was previously arrested for attempted murder, robbery and assault. The two brothers have now been booked under Sections 332 (voluntarily injuring a public servant on duty) and 353 (assault or criminal force on public servant) of the Indian Penal Code. Two separate teams have been formed by the police to trace the two men.
