Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Avinash Jadhav and one more person were booked by the Mumbai Police for allegedly threatening a gold trader from Mumbai's Zaveri Bazar and seeking extortion of Rs 5 crore, a police official said on Friday, reported the PTI.


According to the PTI, as per the 55-year-old complainant, the incident took place on Wednesday in his Zaveri Bazar office in south Mumbai, the official added.


"The complainant has said he had a business deal with one Vaibhav Thakkar, whom he had called to his office to sort out some financial issues. Thakkar came along with MNS leader Jadhav, his driver and six others," the official said, as per the PTI.


"Jadhav and his aide allegedly beat up the complainant's son in front of police personnel. The complainant also alleged Jadhav threatened him for recovery of Rs 5 crore," the official added, the news agency reported on Friday.

On the complaint of the gold trader, Jadhav and one more person were booked under Indian Penal Code sections for extortion etc and further probe was underway, the Lokmanya Tilak (LT) Marg police station official said, as per the PTI.

Man assaulted inside train dies, 7 booked by railway police

Meanwhile, in an another incident, The railway police have booked seven people after a 55-year-old man died after allegedly being assaulted inside a train between Titwala and Vasind stations in Maharashtra, an official said on Friday, the PTI reported.

According to the PTI, he was assaulted inside a suburban train last month, a railway police official said.

The deceased who was identified as Datta Dunda Bhoir was allegedly attacked inside a train on April 27 between Titwala and Vasind stations during an argument between a group of passengers, he said, as per the PTI.

"Two persons, Amol Pardeshi (40) and Tanuj Jammuwal (21), have been arrested in this connection and efforts are on to nab the remaining five," senior police inspector Pandhari Khande of Kalyan railway police told PTI.

"The fight took place when one of the accused tried to take pictures of a female passenger. This was objected to by another person. This led to an argument and Bhoir died after he intervened and was beaten up. He died in a hospital on Thursday," Khande said, the news agency reported on Friday.

The seven have been charged under Indian Penal Code sections 302 (murder), 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting), 149 (common objective), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), the official added, as per the PTI.
