A history-sheeter was arrested in connection with a firing incident in Dharavi in Mumbai some days ago in which a 32-year-old woman sustained injuries to the hand, a police official said on Thursday.

"We have arrested Azhar Sheikh alias Ajju, who has criminal cases against his name, including that of murder. It is a case of accidental firing. He did not mean to target the woman. We held him on the basis of CCTV footage of the vicinity. He has been charged with attempt to murder and other offences under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Arms Act," the official said.
Sheikh was remanded in police custody for four days, the official added.
76-year-old woman smothered to death, robbed in Raigad; two minors detained
In another case, two teenage boys allegedly smothered a 76-year-old woman to death and stole her jewellery in Maharashtra's Raigad district, police said on Tuesday, reported news agency PTI.
The boys, aged 16 and 17 years, were detained on Saturday in connection with the murder that took place on July 24 at Kanghar village in Mhasala, an official said.
He said the boys had arrived at the house of the victim, Shevantabai Rane, to repair her television. One of them caught the woman, while the other boy smothered her by covering her mouth and nose, reported PTI.
The duo killed her and decamped with her earrings, the official said.
The victim, who lived alone, was later rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead, he said.
Based on a complaint lodged by Rane's son, a case of murder and robbery was registered at Mhasala police station, he said, reported PTI.
The accused were detained and sent to a remand home in Karjat, the official said, adding that a further probe was underway.
Meanwhile, a man from Afghanistan, who used to sell blankets on streets in Nagpur city, was seriously injured after being attacked by three persons, police said on Monday, reported PTI.
