The Mumbai Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested a 32-year-old tempo driver for allegedly stealing LPG cylinders and selling them at high prices.
The accused was identified as Manoj Surendra Sharma, a resident of Nalasopara in Palghar district of Maharashtra.
The arrest was made by officials from Charkop Police Station in connection with the theft of 27 LPG cylinders, said an official.
According to the police, the suspect allegedly targeted gas supplies during shortages and attempted to sell them illegally at higher rates.
Following his arrest, the police have recovered 12 cylinders from him, officials said
Linked to multiple crimes
According to investigators, Sharma is suspected to be involved in more than 60 cases of theft and house-breaking.
These incidents were reported across Mumbai and areas under the Mira-Bhayandar–Vasai-Virar (MBVV) Police Commissionerate.
Probe underway
Police are continuing their investigation to identify possible accomplices and recover stolen property.
Officials said further action will be taken based on evidence gathered during the probe.
