A picture postcard sent from the UK 35 years ago was delivered on Friday.
An official from the postal department, wincing at the miss, said the postcard had been delivered, but by some strange phenomenon, had been dropped back into the postbox.

"We don't know who dropped that postcard back into the post box. A stamp on it clearly shows that it was delivered on October 15, 1973 (posted on October 7, 1973)."

The department is now trying to figure out how it was delivered again to same address. "We are investigating the matter and a report will be sent to the senior superintendent," the official said.
Echoing the sentiments of the Chembur postal official, Director of GPO, Shobha Madhale, said, "The postcard was delivered to the family on time,u00a0 but we don't exactly know how it came back to the post office.
It's a mistake. Such incidents happen when there is no address." This postcard, however, had a complete address.
Madhale added, "We once got a letter addressed to Salman Khan and the letter just mentioned Bandra as the area of delivery. Since he is a celebrity it could be sent to him, but it's not possible otherwise."

In another incident, the director remembered that a person wrote a letter years ago to Rabindranath Tagore. "We sent the letter back to the person who later realised that Tagore died decades ago."
