Youngsters in their early 20s can't fathom why the state thinks they are old enough to marry, have children and elect a government, but not kick back with a drink

Youth in their early twenties who thought they would spend the weekend enjoying the company of friends over a few drinks have been left dispirited by the state government's decision of raising the legal drinking age to 25.

Forty-eight hours after the state u00a0voted to raise the age limit, the decision has left a sour taste in the mouths of many.

I don't see the sense of the rule. If restrictions are laid, there will be more breaches. This rule just doesn't make any sense.
Prashant Toskar (23), engineer

The youth of today enjoys going to clubs and alcohol is a part and parcel of clubbing.
Shreyas Salunkhe (22), student

We are legally allowed to marry someone at the age of 21. Then why not drink at 21? The rule should be changed back.u00a0
Priya Rao (22), sportsperson

At 21, people have attained an unders-tanding of the rights and wrongs of life. I don't think the rule makes any sense and will make any difference to people.u00a0
Deepali Salunkhe (24), student

We can marry at 21, decide the fate of the country at 18 but to drink we need to be 25? The government needs to rethink their decision after discussing it with young people.
Abhishek Sharma (24), student

The rule is absolutely wrong. No one is going to follow this rule. If the government wants to stop addiction, they should think of other measures.
Pranit Shetty (22), student

Why is it that in a democratic country, the government imposes so many rules?
Uday Vikruti (22), student

Stupid rule imposed by our leaders. I think 21was the perfect age to start drinking legally.
Siddhesh Pandit (18), student

However, the decision to increase the age limit to 25 does have some takers among the people
The rule is right and should be enforced strictly. The rule is a good detriment u00a0to drinking.
Nilesh Kudtarkar (21), student

I doubt if anyone will follow the rule, but kudos to the government for the law.
Zubair Bhesania (22), student

Thank you ministers for introducing the change. This might avoid them to drown their youth away.
Prathamesh Sherwade (23), student

We aren't aware of all the evils of the world at our age and this rule is a guiding light for us.u00a0
Smruti Sawant (18), student

The youth aren't the ones, who get drunk and misbehave in public. The rule shouldn't be imposed on us.
Aditya Tiwarekar (23), student

The more the government tries to restrict us, the more people will drink just to rebel. The government really needs to rethink its decision.
Roney Sequeira (21), student

The government has just given one more reason to the youth to be disgruntled and do things on the sly.
Ganesh Rane (19), student

Shouldn't decisions made by the government empower citizens? What use is a rule that causes dissatisfaction.
Indrajeet Patil (21), DJ

No one is going to follow this rule as it is so senseless and baseless.
Amol Yadav (23), businessman

Before drafting such laws, the government should do some homework. They should take back this rule as we drink occasionally.
Nachiket Utpat (21), student

There are some adolescents who drink at the age of 15 because of stress and depression. This rule makes no sense.
Ronald D'souza (23), service

This is such an unfair rule. I don't think anyone at all will follow this law.
Kirti Hatisakar (24), sportsperson

Ram Gopal Varma
Shud raise the minimum voting age to 25.if a guy blw 25 is too ignorant 2 decide whethr its ok 2 hv a drink thn hw cn he knw who 2 vote fr?

Pritish Nandy
Before 25, I was married, had a son, got divorced, wrote 8 books, won 23 awards. But if it was today, I wouldn't get a drink. Someone must have been drunk out of his wits to frame this stupid law.

Chetan Bhagat
You cud have a 7year old kid, fought wars in the army, elected a govt, fly airplanes, but damn u can't have a drink. Sometimes I feel some of my most backward great grand relatives are running this country. Oh wait, they are.
