Environmental activists, nature lovers and concerned citizens on Sunday gathered at the Birsa Munda Chowk in Aarey Colony, near the controversial Metro car shed site, to observe the 150th 'Save Aarey Forest' protest, voicing their commitment to protect one of Mumbai’s few remaining green lungs.
The protest, which first took place on July 3, 2022, emerged in response to the large-scale felling of trees undertaken to facilitate the construction of a Metro car shed in Aarey. What began as outrage over the destruction of trees has since evolved into a broader citizen-led movement, with participants calling for sustainable, organic development that respects both people and the planet.
