A man was merrily enjoying his motorcycle ride at 12.30 am last night when he fell down with a thud on Peddar Road. He was stunned with what he saw.
His bike had fallen into a huge pit on the road that was later confirmed by BMC officials, who reached the site, to be five feet deep. They have yet to ascertain the cause.
Traffic problems
The pit, opposite Prabhu Kunj, home to melody queen Lata Mangeshkar, is likely to add to the woes of motorists.
Rajendra Narwankar, assistant engineer, D ward, said, "We had reconstructed the manhole of the sewage line before the monsoon.
Now we will have to redo it. It will take at least a day to repair the road. This may lead to traffic jams."
Peddar Road resident and actor Jackie Shroff, however, refused to blame the BMC. "Nature hai, bhiddu! What can the BMC do if a part of the road caved in?" asked Shroff.
No Flyover
Lata Mangeshkar and other Peddar Road residents had opposed the construction of a flyover in the area. They believed that the flyover would increase air and noise pollution in the area.
