"We are yet to decide whether to take police custody or judicial custody of Ajmal. Previously, we sought his police custody in three cases registered in different police stations in the city.
Nine cases are still pending," a senior official told PTI. Police will either seek police custody or judicial custody in the fourth case.
As many as 12 cases have been registered against Ajmal in connection with the terror strikes. Ajmal was remanded in police custody till January 6 by a local court in connection with a case registered in the Marine Drive police station for robbing a Skoda vehicle and threatening the owner of the vehicle with an AK-47 rifle.

In the earlier two cases, his remand had been obtained for interrogation in connection with shooting people at the busy Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and killing three police officers-Hemant Karkare, Vijay Salaskar and Ashok Kamte-outside Cama Hospital.
Due to security reasons, twice in the past Ajmal was not taken to the court, and prior to regular court hours Magistrate N Shrimangale and Public Prosecutor Eknath Dhumal went to the police lock-up where Ajmal is being kept.
A similar procedure is expected to be followed now. Nine associates of Kasab were killed during the three-day siege, while he was caught alive at Girgaun Chowpatty while trying to escape in a car that he and his associate Ismail Khan had taken at gunpoint.
