35-year-old comes under the wheels of a bus near Bhandup village
The BEST buses may be the lifeline of the city, but quite often, they end up taking a life instead.
Rajendra Garud (35) was walking on M D Kenny Marg near Bhandup village around 9.30 pm last night when a BEST busu00a0 entered the narrow road and crushed him to death.
He was taken to Mrudula Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
Stone pelting
The incident angered the locals who pelted the bus with stones and tried to set it on fire.
Residents said that last April, Tulsidas Kate (20) had been walking on the same road when a BEST bus allegedly hit him at the same point as Garud.
He died on the spot. Said Suresh Warkare, a resident of the locality, "For many years, we have been asking the
authorities to broaden the road, but they have still not done it. This spot is risky and now two deaths have occurred."
The driver Kisan Nikam (35) and conductor surrendered to the Kanjurmarg police. They will be in custody till a case is filed.
