Class 10 boy gets principal arrested for accepting bribe

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested the headmistress of a zila parishad school in Aurangabad district, for accepting a bribe of Rs 200 from a Standard 10 student in lieu of issuing a Transfer Certificate (TC). Incidentally, the student is the complainant in the case.

According to the ACB, the 17-year-old, who lives with his parents and younger brother, is sharp in academics but comes from a poor background. "His father had decided to transfer his younger brother to another school. On June 27, he made an application to the headmistress, Shamshad Muniruddun Kazi (52), seeking a TC," said an officer. The father had asked his son (the complainant) to collect the TC from Kazi, as he was at work. On July 13, when he approached Kazi for the TC, she demanded a bribe of Rs 500. When the boy narrated the incident to two acquaintances, they helped him register a complaint with the ACB.

"Under the supervision of the superintendent of police, Dr Shrikant Paropkari, the information was verified and the next day, a trap was laid. The complainant paid Rs 500 to Kazi, which she accepted and then returned R300 to him. That's when officials caught her red handed," ACB inspector Pramod Patil told mid-day.

Kazi was booked under section 7, 13 (1)(d) and 13 (2) of Prevention of Corruption Act.
