According to P N Mane of Government Railway Police, the Virar local, had to be terminated because of a technical fault in the wheels.

"As the announcement was being made, the public, instead of boarding a new train began to protest on the tracks.

The commuters were irked by the fact that the terminated Virar train was a 12-car, whereas the special train from Borivli was a nine-car.

However, after nearly 20 minutes, we managed to stop the protest and services resumed," said Mane.

Lethargic attitude

In another incident at Malad, an angry mob went on a rampage at the stationmaster's office over the delay in attending to an accident victim.

According to a railway official, the stationmaster and the GRP officials went to the accident site and were searching for the injured man on the tracks.

Meanwhile, the public had already brought the injured to the station. "But as the station master and the GRP were not at the station, we couldn't do anything. This irked the commuters and they got violent," he said.u00a0
