A mysterious letter reached the desk of the Chief Justice of Kolkata High Court in March this year, requesting the judge to take action against a magistrate for favouring an accused in a case. What caught the attention of the chief justice was that the request was printed on the letterhead of Member of Parliament (MP) Priya Dutt, and bore her signature as well.
Worried: Priya Dutt
When the CJ contacted the MP's office, it was learnt that Dutt never sent any such letter to the High Court.
Alarmed at the impostor's stunt, Dutt registered an FIR at the Khar police station. Dutt has asked the police to investigate who has forged her signature and duplicated her letterhead.
"The FIR has been registered in Khar police station and the matter is underu00a0investigation. Once the probe is complete we will share the details," said KMM Prasanna, DCP (zone IX). Confirming the case, on behalf of Priya Dutt, Krishna Hegde member of legislative assembly and former personal assistant of Dutt said, "Someone had forged the signature and dispatched the letter to the Chief Justice of Kolkata High Court. An FIR has been registered at Khar police station."
