The MMRDA is considering increasing the height of the wall separating three oil storage tanks of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) at the Wadala Truck Terminus.
The MMRDA will do so to prevent any security threat to the proposed Rs 2,460-crore monorail project along the Jacob Circle-Wadala-Chembur corridor.
An MMRDA official said, "The alignment of the monorail is such that it will be adjacent to the oil tanks. So, as a precautionary measure, we are ready to raise the height of the compound wall." The height of the wall is about 2.5 metres.
Ratnakar Gaikwad, metropolitan commissioner said, "We are in the process of sorting out the security concerns. We will build a wall around the tanks as a protective shield."
Other projects
Recently, BARC urged the MSRDC to construct a five-m wall on the sides of the Rs 4,000-crore Mumbai Trans Harbour Link connecting Nhava with Sewri as a preventive measure against any attacks. This is likely to increase the cost of the project by Rs 1,000 crore.
