When Arya left her abusive husband Salil Amrute (33) four years ago, she probablyu00a0 thought she would never have to deal with him again. But on Saturday, she got her husband and his live-in girlfriend arrested for using her identity and mortgaging her flat. According to policemen at the Goregaon police station, Amrute, who works as a music director for Marathi films, has been involved with Soniya Gupta (37), a beauty parlour owner, for the last five years. Upset over Amrute's extra-marital relationship and his abusive ways, Arya left her husband to live with her parents in Nagpur in 2007.

She registered a complaint with the police, who discovered that the duo had first taken a loan of Rs 20 lakh from Jan Kalyan Bank in Chembur, mortgaging Arya's flat. Later, they took a Rs 50 lakh loan from New India Cooperative bank in Malad, using Arya's flat once again. This time, they asked the Malad bank to pay Rs 20 lakh to the Jan Kalyan bank, and hand over the remaining Rs 30 lakh to them, as the flat was worth Rs 50 lakh. The police are also investigating the role of the banks, surprised that loans of such large amounts were sanctioned on the basis of forged documents.
