Child Welfare Committee recruits four other psychologists, approach other NGOs for help
With the rise in number of minors being raped in the city, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has decided to increase the number of psychological counsellors at observation homes.
Officials believe that psychologists play an important role in counselling victims and help them muster courage to face their assailants and the prejudice of the world.

"In the last one week, we have employed four more counsellors at our institution to help victims of rape,"
said S A Jadhav, superintendent, Umerkhadi Observation Home.
Jadhav added that earlier the institution had only one counsellor to rehabilitate victims.
The children's institution realising the importance of counselling has also approached several NGOs, who conduct regular counseling sessions for rape victims and other minors arrested in criminal cases.
Meanwhile, the CWC yesterday handed over the custody of a 14-year-old rape victim to her parents.
Her brother-in-law Tauseef Ibrahim Shaikh allegedly raped the minor. According to the police, Shaikh met the girl outside her school in Nagpada and persuaded her to come along with him.
Cops said that he dropped the girl home and left. However, the incident came to light when the victim confided in her mother.
