Leave aside solving Mumbai's suburban problems, but the authorities and public representatives are busy with ego clashes. At Central Railway first meeting on rail accident on suburban section, the difference of opinion was such that members left the meeting midway.
Meeting started at 3pm and sources said that the problems began gradually. Initially the CR were asked their views on long and short term. Speaking to midday, CR general manager S Sood said "We have asked the need for more road and foot over bridges especially near level crossing. Apart from this there is a need for cab signalling inside local trains to reduce space between two trains". But he didnt mention anything about the walk out.
Just amidst these discussions, the MPs and other official asked for short term plans. "The CR authorities said that there are no short term plans. The Railway minister had specifically asked for short term plans too," said MP Kirit Somaiya.
Immediately Somaiya contacted Railway minister Suresh Prabhu who informed that they will surely plan for short term. Prabhu had also said that railway will explore the possibility of short term solutions like automatic door closure system, running of 15-car trains and increasing platform height, among others.
Out of 19 MPs, only one turned up for the first meeting of WR's committee on Saturday. The first meeting of CR's committee witnessed wide differences among committee members. Somaiya and BMC Commissioner Ajoy Mehta also engaged in a war of words with general manager of CR and later on both of them along with KDMC Commissioner E Ravindran left meeting midway.
