Enraged at being called small fry, the fugitive don had paid R1.25 lakh to the accused to avenge his insult. The two books were recovered from Govind Sonkar alias Raju Francis, who was arrested with his accomplices Ashutosh Verma and Rambahadur Chavan.

Police officials said this was the first time Sonkar was going to work for a gangster and since this would have been his first contractual killing, he was preparing himself by reading the books. Police officials said the journalist was lucky to have been on leave during the days when the trio recced the area around his office in Nariman Point.
