A teenager died after falling into an open drain on a water-logged street in Amar Nagar, Mulund, on Friday night. While 15-year-old Aftab Sayed drowned after falling into the open drain, his friend, Arbaz Ansari survived, albeit with a few injuries. The 12-year-old is recovering at Sion Hospital.

The police was informed about the incident by the locals at 10.30 pm on Friday. By then, a few passersby had fished out the boys and shifted them to Sion Hospital. While Sayed was declared dead, Ansari was given first aid. According to the police, the drain, which is five-feet deep and three-feet wide at the mouth, is often a spot for the collection of excess rainwater that flows from the nearby hill. A senior police inspector at Mulund police station said, "We have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) in the matter."

In another incident, a 70-year-old woman fell into a manhole in Bhandup (West) on Saturday. Identified as Sulochana Balerno, a resident of PN Road, locals say she was on her way to pay an electricity bill when she fell into the manhole at 12.30 pm. Efforts to locate her remained unsuccessful.
